The Unveiling of the Cloak

by

I wear the aberrant face of America.

My limbs, torso, and trunk are adornedwith brown skin that magically reflectsultraviolet light, though my skull, encasing such great, gray matter is,in fact, luminously permeable.

Cloaking spells are cast in hopes that Ibecome invisible. Hidden. Sequesteredfrom mindful illumination.

In the dark we flee the Indigo Coven -they attack our flesh with flyingbottles of potions, wielding powers of massdestruction until we are eternallyhidden, vanquished, and madeincorporeal like ourancestors.

The Indigo Coven made little Elijah drinkthe elixir from the cauldron untilhe became a roaming specter ...watching as the ancestorstwisted in their chainson the moors of theMississippi. We quiver from the visions of gener -ational cloaking, until the sensation of rolling salt -water trickles down our dark faces, and the scent of burningpearwood provokes ouramygdala. The scorching embers from floatingballs of fire, and the staggeringwelts on the skin of our ancestorswill never extinguishour light.

Our skulls, which encase such great, graymatter are, indeed, luminouslypermeable,

and our tongues speak the language ofan uncloaked freedom - as WEwear the faces of a disparateAmerica.
