Dissolve
by Alper Yilmaz
She was hurt like the rest of usUncertain and anxious in a timeWhere that sort of thing was in vogueWhere we all knew everything at once but also nothing at allNothing was off limits except disclosure of any kindAnd God watched us chain smokingCigarettes outside the library with pupils dilated like black holesLonely chain smokingRestless on a balcony tryingTo remember a Buddhist storyThat made suffering too muchSeem wonderfulListening to jazz and wonderingIf the starsWould collapse and the futureBe postponed, our anxietyBecome ironic and outdatedWho knows
She had this awkward face with a charming smileHer eyes always looked as if she had something sweet to sayWe loitered in the presentAlive for fifteen minutes at a time livingMostly in low-resolutionBlack and white images of the futureWhere all the meaning wasHidden from usIt was hidden in a dreamIt was hidden in the alleyway strangeGraffiti spray painted profound metaphysical truisms in cuneiformIt was hidden in the manic monologues of the homeless man peddling propheciesOn the street corner --- indecipherableIt was hiddenIn our blood which was trulyWorth its weight in miraclesMartini glasses cling and shakeHaunting deliriumServed with an oz of ginVisions of Godliness
The leaves are dyingIt's November and CanadaIs receding we walkThrough dust and our footstepsVanish buried in memoriesDrowning in hopeAt the endOf every book a moment collapsesWhy can't weJust dissolveI screamed into the middle of nightAnd heard the ravens' replySaying the future is much deeper than we thinkAnd I held herKnowing that we felt the same depthBeneath our dangling feetFree falling through eternityAnd fallingWe dance.
