About Seowoo Choi

Seowoo Choi is a Korean ceramic artist whose practice explores movement, transformation, and the uncertain boundaries between materials. Working with clay, glaze, metal, glass, and other materials, she creates sculptural forms that emerge through an intuitive process of gesture, accumulation, and firing. Her works often operate between drawing and sculpture, treating lines as physical traces of movement and the kiln as an active force in their transformation. Rather than approaching ceramics as a fixed medium, Choi uses its processes to question where one material ends and another begins. Heat, gravity, viscosity, and chance become collaborators, allowing forms to remain open, fluid, and unresolved. Choi received her BFA in Digital Art & Craft from Dongduk Women's University in Seoul and MFAs in Ceramics and Glass from Hongik University and Ceramic Art from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She lives and works in Athens, Georgia.
