About Robert Palmer

Robert Palmer is a contemporary landscape painter based in Arizona whose work explores the expressive and emotional qualities of the Western environment. Rooted in personal experiences across the Sierra Nevadas, the Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, the Mogollon Rim, and the Wasatch forests of Utah, his practice blends impressionistic light with a dynamic, expressionistic approach to mark-making. Palmer’s paintings often hover between realism and abstraction, transforming memory and movement into layered, gestural compositions. Palmer earned his BFA in Fine Art from Arizona State University, graduating summa cum laude, with additional training in woodworking and material processes that continues to inform his artistic versatility. His work has been exhibited in numerous local and regional shows, earning awards and recognition for both technical skill and creative vision. He has developed multiple series, including Echoes of Nature and a body of watercolor works exploring light, reflection, and the shifting behavior of water. With a background spanning painting, woodworking, and sculptural concepts, Palmer’s practice reflects a deep engagement with place, memory, and the natural world. His current work investigates the idea of growth—personal, ecological, and artistic—through loose, gestural forms and evolving palettes. He is committed to developing a uniquely expressive approach to landscape while contributing to dialogues around environment, identity, and the role of memory in art-making. Palmer lives and works in Arizona, where he continues to build a studio practice grounded in exploration, experimentation, and connection to the land.
